The Insights profession has faced one of its most challenging periods in a generation. Transformation, restructures, AI-driven cost narratives and an observable gap between what Insight teams deliver and what some senior leadership value. These are the lived experiences of some of the most accomplished professionals in our field.

Commissioned jointly by MRS, AURA and the Insight Management Academy (IMA), Insights in Transition is an important qualitative study drawing on candid, in-depth interviews with 18 senior client-side Insight leaders who have experienced first-hand the forces reshaping our profession. What emerges is not a story of decline but a detailed, evidence-based blueprint for what the next generation of Insight professionals must do to remain indispensable.

Study lead, and MRS Fellow Nick Rich, will share the key findings, followed by a panel bringing together senior leadership from the MRS, AURA and IMA alongside a study participant, and an open Q&A giving you the chance to put your questions directly to the people experiencing and shaping the profession's response.

What you will take away:

  • Why Insight displacement is being driven by macroeconomic forces and not functional failure. And what that means for how the profession responds
  • How to close the commercial credibility gap: speaking the language of P&L, EBIT and margin over methodology and research process.
  • The shift from reactive service desk to proactive strategic partner and the practical steps that make it happen
  • Executive storytelling: where brevity over thoroughness lands business intelligence most powerfully where it’s needed most.
  • Building the hybrid skillset and why the future belongs to those who can operate across data science, strategy and human insight simultaneously
  • How to practise aggressive internal and external value advocacy and why we should stop waiting for permission.

The disruption is real and so is the opportunity. The profession that emerges from this period of transition will be sharper, more commercially credible and more strategically embedded than the one that entered it.

This session is designed for Insight leaders, research directors, client-side practitioners and anyone who believes the profession's best chapter is still ahead of it.
